Emma was born 1852 in Steyning, Sussex, England. At the age of 18 she worked in Brighton as a domestic servant , Kitchen Maid. She married Arthur David Young in 1873.
In 1881 while still living in Brighton, they had 3 children, Emma age 7, Sara age 5 and Jane age 3. 1901 census shows children as Emma age 27, Arthur age 27, William age 18 and her sister Ann Biggs living in Brighton. Ann Biggs was still living with Emma and Arthur in 1911 in Brighton.
