Fact: http://familysearch.org/v1/LifeSketch Elizabeth was probably born at 60 Power Street on the east side of Providence, RI. During the Civil War, she worked as a nurse at the Mt. Pleasant Hospital (a military hospital) in Washington, DC. In her spare time, she liked to go through the wards and play her melodeon and sing to the wounded soldiers. It was while doing this one day that she first met her future husband. He was a chaplain in the hospital and became enraptured when he heard her singing. He said she had the sweetest voice in the world.
