"Harvey F Billings enlisted as a Sergeant in the Third Independent Battery, Wisconsin Volunteer Light Artillery on September 7, 1861 for three years. This unit served in the Army of the Ohio and the Army of the Cumberland in the Western Theater of the Civil War and saw service in Kentucky, Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama and Georgia. The battery was armed with two 12 pound howitzers and four 10 pound Parrott rifled guns. SGT Billings was with his battery for initial training in Wisconsin and Kentucky. The battery then moved to Nashville, TN, and was in General Buell's advance on Shiloh, TN (unit not present at battle) and the advance on and "siege" of Corinth, MS. SGT Billings was discharged from the battery on May 29, 1862 for disability".

Brother of Joseph Addison Billings buried in the next plot to the north who is also a Civil War Veteran from Wisconsin.
