Biography
Mary (Billington) Johnson was born in Staffordshire, England.
Mary was born in 1849[1] in Smethwick, Staffordshire, England, where she lived with her parents, John Billington and Mary Bashford, in 1851[2] and 1861.[3]
Mary married Jonathan Burrows in Ilkeston, Derbyshire, in 1869.[4][5] In 1871 the family lived in Cannock, Staffordshire. Jonathan worked as a "puddler" at a metalworks.[6]
By 1881 they had moved to Harborne, Staffordshire, where Jonathan worked as a drainpipe maker.[7] 1891 saw him working as a saltworks labourer and the family living at Haverton Hill in the parish of Billingham, County Durham.[8]
Jonathan died in 1895 at the age of 45[9] and was buried in Haverton Hill.[10]
In 1896 Mary married Herbert Johnson.[11] The couple lived in Haverton Hill in 1901; Herbert was a boiler smith and Mary had a draper's shop.[12] Herbert died in 1906 at the age of 51.[13] In 1911 Mary lived with her niece in Haverton Hill and continued her drapery business.[14] In 1921 Mary lived alone in Haverton Hill.[15]
