Biography

Birth

Listed in the family's song book, Beva, generally referred to as Barbara, was born September 23, 1831 in Coshocton County, Ohio. She was the daughter of Henry Billman and Mary Divan. The specific date of birth is also presented on her Licking County Death Certificate.[1]The annotated song book, presented in German by the hand of Henry Billman, is described in the "History and Genealogy of Conrad Billman and Susannah Seiberling" by A. C. Van Dyke as arranged by Frank W. Billman (1930) Western Reserve Historical Society.[2]

Marriage

Barbara Billman married Willis H. Miller November 23, 1848. The date is officially undocumented. However, the exact dates pertaining to the marriage and births were meticulously maintained and handed down through each generation. The present list was passed on by Margaret Z. Miller, granddaughter of this couple. The date seems reasonable given the first child was born June 27, 1850.

Research Note

The presentation of A. C. Van Dyke states that the ownership of the song book referred to above was recently (1930) in the possession of Lona Baker of Louisville, Ohio, a great granddaughter of Henry Billman. In about 1975, the relations of Lona Baker were consulted about the existence of the book by Margaret Z. Miller, another great granddaughter through a different line. There was no memory or trace of the referenced material at that time.
