Biography

It is unclear when James was baptised or who his parents were, there were 3 James Bindon /Binding's baptised between 1740 and 1760 in the registers of Old Cleeve, Leighland and St Decumans. [1]

Of these baptism's the 1844 James appears to have died in 1755 (as the parents names are given and the same and parents names are usually only given for minors on these registers)and the 1856 and 1857 baptisms would have been 16 and 15 years of age in the marriage year of 1772 so appear to be unlikely. A further search on freereg of nearby places did not turn up any further results.

James Bindon married Ann Watts on the 12 Mar 1771 at Watchet St. Decuman, it says his parish is Old Cleeve, Somerset, and Ann's was Watchet and they were married by license [2]

On the baptism record for James twin sons Charles and Edward, his surname has been written in as Binding. These records also confirm that his wife was named Ann. [3]

After 1778 there doesn't appear to be any more children born to James and Ann in the parishes of Old Cleeve, Leighland and St Decumans

It's likely that James' death was in 1791 and his burial the 15th of November that year at Old Cleeve, however as no age or further details are given it is unsure, however all the other James burials have ages that don't match or parents names given which often signifies a child. [4]

Research Notes

Rechecked for new sources = 22nd Dec 2022

As they married by license there shoudl be further license information to find which may give parents name, searched Family search catalog for these but they only have Abstracts of Bath & Wells Diocesan records : marriages licenses & allegations, 1583-1681 currently. (Somerset is in the Bath & wells diocese)

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with James by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with James:
