Hi Lawrence,

Thank you for all the work that you have done for the England Project. As you have not responded to our recent check in, I presume that you wish to leave the project. I hope that you will want to re-join us sometime in the future. You can do this by responding to our G2G post: https://www.wikitree.com/g2g/1516540/is-2023-your-year-to-join-the-england-project.

HI Susie

I did not respond because I am uncertain what I want to do. For some time I have not been as involved with Wiki-tree as I used to be and it is only now that I have started to take an interest again filling in some gaps. Computer and internet issues didn't altogether help but these are now sorted out. Decided to expand my CC7 exposure. I don't mind helping out with projects if called upon and was very involved with the Cornish Group but with the change of convenor a couple of years ago I have not heard anything since. I created some tables which although generating interest at the time seem to have died a natural death and put forward a couple of other ideas I would like to have seen recorded. Probably my fault for not following up but my enthusiasm died and my lack of activity probably meant I have already to a certain extent left the Cornish project. Before your email I was toying with the idea of joining another project such as Kent but am still contemplating how much time I am prepared to devote and if I wish to become committed again as I once was. The whole program is addictive once you become entrapped. Kind Regards Lawrie

Hi Lawrence

After a long break, we are now getting the New Zealand Project back in action. Would you like to join the Kiwi Crew Discord server? This is where we are discussing how the project will be organised, though any major changes will be signposted in G2G. (Make sure you follow the new_zealand tag). There is no obligation to take part in challenges, but you may like to discuss NZ history and work with others to create quality New Zealand profiles. We’re a really friendly bunch.

Hi Fiona

Currently I am running hot and cold on Wiki-tree. I could be interested in assisting and happy to give it a trial but I am not sure how much I can do of value. My main interest was of course the South Island but as I no longer live in NZ I no longer have the liberty of being able to search places where history is not available online such as Early Settlers Associations. Secondly I am not sure my profiles are the greatest as I find it difficult working within the constraints of the referencing system. It works well until you start editing so I prefer to work around that basic requirement.

Cheers Lawrie

Thanks for you reply, Lawrie. If you follow the new_zealand tag you will have a fairly good idea of what we are doing. Let me know if I can help out with anything.

I'd also like to share our annual Newsletter with you. You can read it here: England Project Newsletters. We hope you enjoy reading a bit about what has gone on in 2022 and what our Project has achieved.

The England Project Leaders like to touch base with each of our members every 6 months just to make sure everything is going well. There's no need to reply to this message unless you have something you'd like to let us know about (e.g. if you would like to change your team choices or provide other feedback). We will be in touch with you again in the middle of next year when we do our annual check-in with project members.

On behalf of all the Leaders, I wish you a peaceful and productive 2023.

Best wishes,

Elizabeth, England Project Leader

Hi Elizabeth

I have not been very active in the last six to nine months and only now starting to become interested again but very slowly. I had to prevent it becoming too addictive as it was consuming an incredible amount of time. I appear to be still on the Cornwall project but there has not been a great deal of activity since Roger left. Happy to become involved again if the groups activity is ever rejuvenated. I had this idea once of documenting the many Cornish people and ships lost around the Cornish Coast but I assume locals have already done that elsewhere. Most of my work has been around Cornwall but I am extending that interest to the Kent area where another branch of the tree originated from. I have also decided to go back over my previous work and ensure the accuracy of my records especially as I discover new sources of information. In summary happy working on my own personal tree even if it has some extremely long and weird branches. Kind Regards Lawrie

Thanks Laurie! Yes - it can consume an awful lot of time, can't it. I like your idea of Cornish shipwrecks - that would make a very interesting topic team - and as Cornwall has such a large team you may find some willing participants to help out. Or you could possibly talk to the Disasters Project. Cheers, Elizabeth :-)

Hi Ian

To be honest I have had to back off my activities within Wiki Tree lately as have a number of other unrelated projects on the go. I still keep my eye on developments and will be back when I have more time available.

Thanks for your interest

Hi Lawrence,

It's that time of the year again: check-in time! As England Project Leaders, we like to check in with you every six months or so to see how things are progressing. Back in May, we didn't ask for a response due to the rapid emergence of Covid-19 because we understood that people's lives were changing rapidly. While we are still living in a Covid world, we do need to hear back from you this time around.

First of all, how are you doing? What are you currently working on? Are you happy with the team(s) you're in, or would you like to change things up?

Secondly, we're looking for some feedback on the Google Group and our Discord server. Do you use either or both of these? If you don't use either, why not? Do you have any suggestions on how we can improve participation and collaboration, either generally or for you personally?

Looking forward to hearing from you,

Joan, Amy & Lizzie.

Hi Folks

Thank you for checking upon me - Yes I am still alive and still doing my own thing.

I have a huge (or I think it is huge) number of profiles in my tree that I entered originally from wherever the tree and its branches and more sub branches took me. May start removing myself from some of them as profile manager in the future especially the American ones. I am now using the anniversary listing resource to go back and check my workings and add further information. I am not happy until I have ensured I have correctly covered mum, dad, kids, birth, marriage, and death, bath night etc. Found a few mistakes I have made (naughty boy) and corrected those. It does throw your workings out when you have entered the wrong spouse (only once however) . When the reviewing is done I might start adding to the life stories sourced via newspaper and historical records etc. A few brick walls (like everybody has) to get to one day

Most of my team work is with the Cornwall group and I think I have made some significant contribution especially with Cornish emigrants. I believe the Cornwall team has achieved a very high rate of place categorization. I stumbled across some interesting data regarding the many shipwrecks on the Cornish Coast and was going to set up a category and populate that but I haven't followed up my unanswered request for a category yet. Too many other things to do. (refer last six monthly report to Amy)

I have a pet peeve with profiles I am coming across from Gedcom inputs, or those that have been started without good sources, and those that don't read logically. Please stop Gedcom inputs. Another is when people change your profiles without consultation. I had one this week where ( a third cousin if you please) profile's birth date, death date, place of death, was changed despite my request not to. To add insult to injury after no reply a photo was added. Thank heavens for the delete change option. Anyway there is little you can do about that. A courtesy reply email from the person would have been in order.

Not sure what you call the Google group or Discord Server so obviously I am not using them. I do get the England Project google emails but other than read the ones of interest confess I don't do anything else with them. If I come across something I don't know I usually ask Roger Davey Team Leader for Cornwall and he has been very helpful.

Although lock down allowed me to expand my contributions significantly I am now trying to limit my involvement to a sensible amount of time. We here in the colonies (Australia and New Zealand) have brushed off (I hope) Covid-19 and life is almost back to normal. Wikitree is addictive and can take over your life if you let it.

Cheers Lawrie

Hi Lawrence,

Your England Leaders are completing the six monthly check in with all team members. I wanted to thank you for your work on English Profiles. These are unprecedented and difficult times, and we understand as Project Leaders that your situation may have changed somewhat in the last few months. What we are all able to/ wish to contribute on Wikitree has changed. Please let me know if you are happy with your current role and team choice or if you wish to do something additional or different. Thank you again on behalf of all the project leaders for everything you do!

Hi Amy No problems happy doing my own thing and keeping up to date on the various comments - Most of my work is in Cornwall. Awaiting a couple of issues at the moment - Have discovered some interesting profiles attached to shipwrecks in Cornwall (one ship had over 191 Cornish souls drowned) so am awaiting the category team to give me some categories and for some reason I am unable to log into the root source program which I was trying to do when you sent me this email. Must be a software bug. Anyway treating the whole thing as a hobby and daily mind strengthening exercise. Actually I have plenty to do without getting involved in other projects as initially I just entered names (I was on a roll for a while) so using the anniversary resource to now go back and check my workings and add some flesh to the profiles.
