Private Davidson Binkley died in military service of disease during the United States Civil War.
Davidson was born on 12 November 1831[1] in Springfield, Robertson County, Tennessee.[2] According to notes from a family Bible, his full name was Benjamin Davidson Binkley.[3]
He married Angeline Mayo on 20 January 1853 in Davidson County, Tennessee.[4]
He was a farmer. He grew Indian corn, peas, beans, Irish potatoes, sweet potatoes, and sorghum, and made butter.[5]
He joined the Union Army at Camp Butler, Illinois on 26 September 1862.[6] He was a private in Company G, 128th Illinois Infantry.[7] On 5 November 1862, he mustered in at Camp Butler.[8]
He died of measles on 9 January 1863 while stationed with his regiment in Cairo, Alexander County, Illinois[9] and was buried in Spiller Cemetery in Williamson County, Illinois.[10]
