Research Notes

Elizabeth Harris, June 12, 2016:
  1. "He and his second wife, Sarah Binckele, joined Graceham Moravian Church in Frederick County. Leonard came to Wachovia in the summer of 1773 to look at land." "An entry in the Records of the Moravians in North Carolina indicates that in 1773 Leonard visited the settlements of Bethabara, Wachovia, and Bethania "to look for land". He was accompanied by Adam Spach. The entry also refers to Leonard's brother from Stinking Quarter as being the third member of the party. Many researchers believe his brother to have been Adam Moser who arrived aboard the ship, James Goodwill, in 1728. Adam had settled in Orange County, NC. Frederick Moser is reported to have also lived in Orange County, NC." [5]
  • Leonard Jr. and Michael, and possibly some of the other older children, seem to have remained in Maryland when their parents moved to North Carolina.
  • After Leonard's death in 1782, his widow Sarah married Edward Nathaniel Bartley on November 9, 1783. Her rapid remarriage may have been prompted by a court order that she have her children bound out, and she seems to have sent the two youngest sons, Henry and John, to Maryland at this time. Henry testified on the pension application filed by Michael Moser's widow in 1856 that he married in Maryland before he and Michael left for North Carolina in the autumn of 1790. John Moser was also back in North Carolina by at least 1795, when he married Polly Smith. [citation needed]
  • Named in her father's will 1791 as wife of Edward Bartley: We need a will book and page citation for Peter's will. It will be in Stokes Co. NC.
  • Date of Birth listed as February 24, 1733 in the Records of the First Moravian Church, City of York, York County, Pennsylvania [6]

Binckele-44 and Binckele-35 appear to represent the same person because: Same birth date; profile to be merged is unattached to anything else; only sources are Ancestry trees.

Binkley Moser-1 and Binckele-35 appear to represent the same person because: Binckele is correct spelling, not Binkley-Moser.

I see you've set this as an unmerged match with [Binckele-35], which is a much more complete profile. I realize we still have problems with multiple profiles for her husband, mainly because of conflicting data, but I don't see any reason why we can't merge this profile into Binckele-35 now.

For what it's worth, she died in Stokes Co. NC, in the southern part of Stokes which became Forsyth County in 1849. We know that because her will was probated in Stokes County on 14 Sep 1820. However, I'm not aware of anything that documents her dying specifically in the Rural Hall community.

Please merge Binkley-993 into Binckele-35, not the reverse as the merge currently seems to be set up, since the Binckele spelling was more prevalent at the time of her birth. However, please keep the death date 1820 from Binkley-993 (Her will was dated 10 Feb 1815, probated 14 Sep 1820, Stokes Co. NC). Also, she uses the spelling Sarah in her will, so this is presumably what she preferred, not Sara.
Binkley-993 and Binckele-35 appear to represent the same person because: These are clearly the same person. The information does not have to match exactly to perform a merge. Binkley-993 is unsourced and unconnected to any family members, while Binckele-35 is very much sourced and connected. Please merge.

I have edited only the birth date and birth place from the original image in the KB. The other managers should edit the portions of the profile they provided.

I have examined page 119 of the Waldersbach church book and the place of her birth was Bellefosse, The year is definitely 1732, and the month is February. The day is not legible, but the birth date before is 2/13 and the date after is 2/26.

Please get her birth place right in the merged profile. The Biography as it now stands has three different locations. Steinthal, Alsace, Germany is probably correct. Her will was written in 1815 and probated 14 Sep 1820, so the 1829 death date is incorrect also. Death was in Stokes County NC; Forsyth Co. didn't exist yet.
