John was born in June of 1868[1]. He was baptised at St Mary's, Lancaster on 8 July 1868. He was the son of Frederick Binyon and Mary Dockray.
In the 1871 census[2], John is living with his parents and his younger brother, Robert, in Burton In Lonsdale in Yorkshire. While in a different county, Burton is actually only 10 miles NE of Lancaster. His father, Frederick, is listed as a Master of Arts (perhaps he was a teacher?). They must have been well-to-do as they have three servants registered at the address with them.
In the 1891 census records[3], John is listed as a boarder at Mrs Hunt's boarding house in Rumford Street in Chorlton Upon Medlock, Lancashire. Chorlton is a suburb of Manchester. John is listed as a solicitor. At just 22 he would be young to have already fully qualified.
John married in Q2 1897 in Chorlton[4].
The 1911 census[5] records him as a solicitor living at Grange-over-Sands, Lancashire, England which lies directly opposite Lancaster across Morecambe Bay. With him is his wife, Mabel, two daughters and a son. There are also three servants; again a well-to-do family.
John died in Q1 1936 in Hendon in Middlesex[6]. His probate record gives his death date as 4 February 1936.
