According to the Birch family history, Florence worked in the United States for several years as a seamstress. Since she was living at home in the 1911 census, and married in 1912 at the age of 25 that doesn't leave many years. However, she was an excellent needleworker. At her wedding, the bridesmaid was Lulu Yeo; best man was Reg Birch. (This adds some evidence to the family story that Reg and Lulu were young sweethearts who didn't marry until much later in life).
The marriage of Miss Eliza Florence Birch, eldest daughter of Mr. Edward A. McArthur of Northam, was solemnized in St. James Church, Port Hill at 7 pm on Wednesday 20th. Rev. C. de Wolfe White of Summerside was the officiating clergyman and a very large congregation witnessed the ceremony.
