William Birch was born in Lancashire, England.

William was born in Burnley, Lancashire, England, on June 21,1910. He was the son of Henry Birch, "Coal Miner", and Alice Ann Edmondson. He was one of four children. (In the 1911 census, his mother declares she had four children, but three had died). William was baptized on August 3, 1910, in Burnley, at St Peter.

William married Mary Brotherton on September 7, 1935, in Habergham Eaves, Lancashire, at Saint Matthew the Apostle. According to the parish register, William was listed as a twenty five year old bachelor, and weaver, residing at 24 Pheasantford Street. His father was named as Henry Birch, Miner. Mary was a twenty three year old spinster, her occupation, clerk, and was residing at 25 Ulster Street. Her father was named as Richard Brotherton, Furnace Tenter. The witnesses were Henry Smith and Kathleen Ainsworth. The couple would continue living in the Burnley area of Lancashire, having at least two children after 1939.

William passed away in 1969. His death was registered in the fourth quarter in Burnley. He was fifty nine.
