Ellen Birch was born in about 1828 in Halewood, Lancashire.

By June 6th 1841, Ellen was 13; she was a servant in the household of Margaret (Blakeledge) Preston (1778-) in Eccleston, Lancashire. Margaret was a watchmaker, and had three adult sons living with her, all also watchmakers.

Ellen married James Banks on 4 Aug 1850 at St Nicholas' Church in Liverpool.

By April 7th 1861, they were living in Mason Street, Much Woolton. James was a miller.

By April 2nd 1871, they were living in Much Woolton, Lancashire.

By April 3rd 1881, they were living in Much Woolton, Lancashire.

Not found in 1851 but likely to have been in Much Woolton (where they were in 1852) or Childwall (where they were in 1850)
