Elizabeth Birchall was born in 1838 in Eccleston, Lancashire. She was the daughter of Ann Birchall, born out of wedlock.
On the night of June 6th 1841, Elizabeth was with her maternal grandparents and their four youngest children in Hackley Moss, Eccleston. Her grandfather was a watch maker. Her mother wasn't in the household.
Elizabeth's mother married Richard Fairclough in 1846 at St Ann's Church in Rainhill, Lancashire.
On the night of March 30th 1851, Elizabeth was again with her maternal grandparents, who were living in St Helens Road, Eccleston; her grandfather was a watch pinion maker.
On the night of April 7th 1861, Elizabeth was with her mother and stepfather in St Helens Road, Eccleston. Her stepfather was a watch fusee maker; the household also included a boarder, a lodger and an apprentice.
