Research Notes

Whilst working on the Wales Categorisation Project we came across this profile. It fascinated us because there is no such place as Victoria either in Monmouthshire or in Monmouth town. In doing research we obviously found the same census references as you did. More intriguing!!

Then we checked in the GRO and the following record was found. BIRD, MARY ANN, Mothers Maiden Name HICKS, GRO Reference: 1851 D Quarter in ABERGAVENNY Volume 26 Page 35. Clearly this is your Mary Ann. Further delving finds a Victoria Street in Abergavenny, as well as there being a Victoria Inn in Hereford Road. Please can you add a =Research Note= to the record. We will be deleting the place name Victoria Monmouthshire in a week or so. If we haven't heard from you by then we will add the Research Note ourselves, You are always as Profile Manager at liberty to remove it if you so wish.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I remember when researching her trying to figure out where in Monmouth she was born. Evidently, I corrected her record in my personal database but neglected to update this record. I've changed her birthplace to Abergavenny. which is correct
