Biography

Cassandra was born in 1760.[2] She passed away in 1854[3][4]

She was baptised Apr. 25, 1760 in Prince George Co. MD

She married Thomas Allison in 1779 in Wilkes Co. NC. He was born in the same parish in MD. Cassandra Allison is listed as age 91 (b. 1759) on the 1850 census of McDowell Co. NC. On this census Cassandra is in the household of Moses Allison and her birthplace is given as Maryland. According to a letter written in 1870's by Richard Bird Maffitt, "Mother's grandfather was a Virginian but moved to McDowell Co. before the Revolution. He had some sons and one daughter: Jonothan, Thomas, Richard and Benjamin Bird were their names, Kasander married a man whose name was Thomas Allison". The above written by D.C. Stewart(16676) of Etowah, TN., Bird descendants.

Cassandra was born in 1760. She passed away in 1854 in McDowell County, NC.

NOTE: CONTINUED RESEARCH BY KENNETH RICKETT DOES SUGGEST THAT THE GRAVE OF CASSANDRA ALLISON IN HELEN, LAWRENCE COUNTY, GA IS NOT THE GRAVE OF CASSANDRA BIRD WHO MARRIED THOMAS ALLISON AND SETTLED MCDOWELL CO. NC. CASSANDRA BIRD AND HER HUSBAND THOMAS ALLISON LIVED IN NORTH CAROLINA FOR SEVERAL DECADES. THOMAS DIED IN 1848 IN MCDOWELL CO. NC AND IN 1850 CASSANDRA ALLISON, AGE 91 WAS LIVING IN THE HOUSEHOLD OF HER SON MOSES ALLISON AND HER BIRTHPLACE WAS LISTED AS MARYLAND.

The above has been confirmed. The Cassandra (maiden name ??) Allison who died 1851 Habersham Co. GA and was buried in the Lawrence Cemetery of White Co. GA was the spouse of Benjamin Allison (d. 1843), a brother to Thomas Allison (died 1848) who married Cassandra Bird 1760-1854. McDowell Co. NC records show that John Ricketts, son in law, was adm. of the estate of Cassandra Bird Allison in 1854 after she died about 94 years of age. Both Thomas and Cassandra Bird Allison were likely buried in Old Ebenezer Cemetery near Old Fort, McDowell County, NC in unmarked graves.

The 1848 estate records of Thomas Allison, deceased on 6 Feb 1848, reveal the children:, to wit, George Allison and his wife Barbara, Moses Curtis and his wife Mary Allison, Elizabeth Allison (Banning) wife of Frazier Banning, James Banning and his his Jemima Allison, John Ricketts and his wife Winny Allison, Jonathan Allison, Thomas Allison, Bird Allison, Moses Allison, and the children of Benjamin Allison (deceased, 1843) who were R. Hollingsworth and his wife Rachel Allison, Airy Allison, Winny Allison, James Allison, and Cassandra Allison (Ledford).

Cassandra Bird Allison, was nearing 90 years of age when her husband Thomas Allison died. So Charles Mackey was the administrator of the estate of Thomas Allison probably by Cassandra's request.

On 8 December 1848 Cassandra Bird Allison filed for division of property as Thomas died without a will. Thomas owned 632 acres on Newberry Fork and Cane (Cain) Creek in McDowell County, NC and usually widows are entitled to one third. On 12 January 1849 Cassandra Bird Allison, widow, was granted by the court one-third of the property that included the homeplace.

McDowell County Estate records indicate that John Rickett, son in law, was appointed to administrate the estate of Cassandra Bird Allison, wife of Thomas Allison who died 6 Feb 1848. However, the continuation of the the settlement of the intestate Thomas Allison spanned some twenty years, and Cassandra died in 1854, possibly in 1853.

Research Notes

DNA testing has established that Casandra's father Benjamin was descended from the New Castle Co. Bird family of Thomas Bird and Annika Stedham and not related to the Bird family of Rock Creek in Maryland.[5] Both were Irish families but the former proceeded the latter in America by a generation.

I’ve adopted Allison-6503, Benjamin Allison who was married to Cassandra (Unknown) Allison according to the notes on this profile. Both are buried together in Helen, GA. I see no evidence that a profile has been created for Cassandra (Unknown) Allison. If there is no objection I will create that profile and link her to Allison-6503.

PLEASE create a profile for Cassandra (Unknown) Allison who was buried in Helen GA with her husband. I think a specific profile, even with an unknown surname, will benefit your family as well as the family who descends from Cassandra Bird (Allison).

Bird-9979 and Bird-3519 appear to represent the same person because: These two are obviously the same person and should be merged.

They could hardly be born on the same day, have the same parents names, marry someone with the same name and die on the same day in the same place without being the same person. Not sure why someone rejected the spouse merge that someone initiated as they are obviously the same as well.

The DNA tests noted in the DNA confirmation statement do not represent actual DNA tests taken, so I've changed the 'confirmed with DNA' entry to 'confident'.
