Biography

Chole (Bird) Flett was a Canadian First Peoples and member of the Metis Nation.

Chloe Bird, (Flett). (b. 1815) Chloe was the daughter of James Curtis Bird Sr. and his wife, Elizabeth, the sister of Jemmy Jock Bird [1].

On April 25, 1833 she married James Flett at St. John’s Parish by Banns [2]

In 1841,the family joined the Sinclair party and traveled overland to thePuget Sound area of Washington. The 1841 settlers had been recruited for the Hudson Bay Company Puget Sound Agricultural Company (PSAC) venture at Fort Nisqually [1] The only successful source of early colonists for the PSAC would come from the Red River colony. In November 1839 Sir George Simpson instructed Duncan Finlayson to begin promoting the PSAC to colonists When they arrived at Fort Vancouver, they numbered 21 families of 116 people

Died 1842 during childbirth at Tualatin Plains, Washington Co, Oregon; her husband died the next year. Their children were adopted out to various families.
