Robert Birdwell married Ellen Sanford. There are presently two known children of Robert, William Birdwell (1766 - 1823) and John Birdwell (1772 - ____).

12 Nov 1772 • Residence in Botetourt CO, Virginia Ord. that Isaiah Vinsant, Robert Burdwell, George Burdwell, William Rowland, Ephriam Willson, Richard Willson, with their tithables do work on Captain Crow's road. Side NOTE: Botetourt CO was established in Nov 1769 from part of Augusta County, Virginia

1780 • George Birdwell (c1721-1781) moved his family from Virginia to Sullivan County, North Carolina now Tennessee about 1780.

Robert Birdwell (his son by first wife) followed later, buying land in Sullivan County, Tennessee by 1790, if not earlier.
Robert's younger half-brother William Birdwell later lived in Jackson County, Tennessee. by 1804 and lived there through 1830.

8 March 1790 • Robert Birdwell's residence in Hawkins, North Carolina[4]

1806 • Robert Birdwell "of Sullivan County" was shown on a deed filed in Smith County, Tennessee in 1806.

1811• Robert Birdwell was on a deed filed in Sullivan County, Tennessee on 13 December 1811.

1814 • Robert Birdwell appears as a witness to a deed in Giles County, Tennessee by March 1814.

1815 • Robert Birdwell's estate papers filed in Giles Co, Tennessee in 15 Sep 1815. No Will has ever been found for Robert Birdwell to prove his children, but circumstantial evidence indicates they were William, Alexander, James and John.[5]

Robert Birdwell is a son of George Birdwell by his first wife. Sarah and Ann Birdwell were daughters of George Birdwell by his first wife, not by Mary L Looney, his second wife.
