Biography

Mary was born in about 1836 at Birket-mire to parents John Birkett and Mary (Skelton) Birkett.

Mary was christened on 22 January 1836 in St John's in the Vale. ^[1]

Mary's mother died when she was about four.

In 1841 Mary was with her father and siblings. ^[2]

In 1851 Mary, aged 15, was at Birketmire with her father, stepmother Betty and siblings. Betty's father John Robinson was living with them. ^[3]

In 1856 Mary gave birth to an illegitimate daughter Mary. No father was named on the christening record, but when Mary married her father was named as William Taylor.

In 1861 Mary was living with father, stepmother Betty, sister Rachel and daughter Mary at Birketmire. ^[4]

Mary married John Wilkinson on 25 February 1864 at St John's in the Vale, Cumberland. ^[5]

Mary and John went on to have at least 6 children, five sons and a daughter.

In 1871 Mary and John were living at Shoulthwaite with their three sons. ^[6]

In 1881 Mary was a widow living in Underskiddaw with five of her children. ^[7]

In 1891 Mary was in Keswick, Cumberland. She was living on Blencathra St with her son Christopher. She was a widow aged 54. ^[8]

Death 1898 in Keswick, Cumberland. A widower, living on Blencathra St. ^[9]
