Biography

John Jacob (Birkle) Pirkle. Given Name: John Jacob. Surname: (Birkle) Pirkle.

Married Dorothea Vogts on October 10 1724 in Heide, Schleswig-Holstein.[1]

Arrived in Philadelphia with family on the pink Mary on September 29 1733.[2]

Four more children were born and baptized at Swatara, Pennsylvania between 1734 and 1742.[3]

Died 1780 Lancaster, Lancaster, Pennsylvania, United States. Age: 73-74.

Research Notes

William Loy Pirkle wrote that John Jacob was the son of Michael Birckel of Hinterzarten, explaining the extra family members on the Mary as 'cousins'. [4] He doesn't provide any clear evidence for this and it seems more likely that this is a different John Jacob and the other couple and sixteen year old girl are his parents and sister.
There is another Hans Jacob Berkel who arrives on the Betsy in 1739. Perhaps that is the son of Michael.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John Jacob by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
