Biography
William was born about 1862, the son of Oliver Norris Birney and Anne Ramsay. On the 2nd August 1899, he married Mary Jane (May) Todd in Dublin.[1] William's and Mary Jane's household was enumerated in the 1911 census of Ireland as follows:
- William Ramsay Birney, head of family, Church of Ireland, reads and writes, age 49, Shipping agent, married, born in county Tipperary
- Mary Jane, wife, do., ..., married 11 years, no children, born in county Kerry
- John Charles Boshell, servant, Roman Catholic, do., age 33, Servant, single, born in county Dublin
William Ramsay Birney died on the 6th December 1943 at Matlock, Derbyshire, aged eighty-one years;[3] his name was memorialised on the gravestone in the family plot in Mount Jerome Cemetery in Dublin.[4]
