Peter Birnie was born on October 29, 1862 in Happy Hillock, Pitsligo, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. His parents were Peter Birnie and Margaret Rennie.[1] Sadly, his father had been lost at sea four months earlier.
In the 1871 census Peter (age 8), scholar, was the son of Margaret Birnie in Happyhillock, Pitsligo, Aberdeenshire.[2]

Peter arrived alone on 24 April 1901 on the ship Laurentian in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He was headed to Russell, Manitoba.[6]
During the 1921 Canada census Peter (age 56) was a boarder at the home of William Moore in the Kindersley district of Saskatchewan. He was employed as a farmer and lived there with his wife Charlotte (age 54).[7]
Peter Birnie, widower, died (age 87) from heart failure on July 4, 1950 at Hot Springs Road in Agassiz, Kent, British Columbia, Canada. He was buried at the Carman United Church Cemetery in Sardis, British Columbia on July 7th.[8]
Peter Birnie passed away July 4 at his residence, Hot Springs road, Agassiz, in his 89th year. Deceased was born in Scotland and was a widower. Funeral service was held Friday from Henderson's chapel, Rev. Victor Hall officiating. Interment was in the family plot, Carman cemetery.
