When William Ellester Birnstihl was born on April 17, 1938, in Eveleth, Minnesota, his father, Adam, was 46 and his mother, Myrtle, was 35. He married on January 9, 1963, in St Louis, Minnesota. He had four children during his marriage. He died on June 20, 2012, in Virginia, Minnesota, at the age of 74, and was buried in his hometown.
