Margaretha Birong was born Dec. 16th 1895 to Peter Birong and Anna Hettrich . She grew up in the village of Kathreinfeld (her birthplace) which is located in a region known as the Banat. This region is in modern day Yugoslavia but then it was in the Austria-Hungarian empire. This village was populated by a group of ethnic Germans known as the Donauschwaben. She came to the US with her father Peter and arrived on 11 Apr 1909 in NYC. Her father settled her into life as a maid for a Jewish family before returning to Kathreinfeld and bringing her sister Helen over at a later date. It was here, in NYC that she met and married Frank Weiss on 30 Jun 1921. On April 9th 1922, they were blessed with a daughter, Margaret Anna Weiss. Sometime before 1930, the family relocated to Chicago to be close to her cousin and it was here that their second daughter, Elsie was born in 1928. After 1930 but before 1935, the family traveled back to NYC where they lived until the 1950s. At that time, Frank and Margaret moved to Tulsa, OK to be close to Elsie and her husband George Kuck. Margaret remained there until her death from cancer of the large intestines in March of 1988. She is buried at Floral Haven in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.
