William Bishop was born about 1755 in Pennsylvania.
While living in Camden District, Chester, South Carolina, William served in the Continental Army.[1][2][3]
On 9 December 1833, it was proven to the satisfaction of the Hopkins County court by the oath of William Gordon that Eli Bishop, Rhoda Caldwell, wife of George Caldwell, William Bishop, Rebecca Miller, wife of Alexander Miller, Martha Fox, wife of Jeremiah Fox, James Bishop and Hannah B Will [sic - should show Witt], wife of Christopher R Will [Witt], were the children and heirs at law of William Bishop.[3][4]
On 8 December 1834 in Hopkins County, Kentucky, Eli Bishop with sister Rhoda Caldwell of Butler County, brother William Bishop, brother-in-law Alexander Miller (husband of sister Rebecca), sister Martha Fox, brother James Bishop and sister Hannah B. Witt came to Hopkins County Court to make a "declaration" to obtain Revolutionary War pension benefits for their father, William Bishop. Previously, William was found to be a lunatic by the Hopkins County Court and therefore unable to make his case.[2]
There are other Bishop lines in PA and KY that may be confused with this one. Thus, much care is needed in evaluating any information from the period before 1850.
