Will

In the name of God Amen. I Roger Bishop of Baltimore County in the Province of Maryland, planter, being sick and weak in body but of sound mind memory and understanding do make and publish this my last will and testament in manner and form following to wit-

And first of all it is my will and meaning that all my just debts and funeral charges be fully satisfied also I give and bequeath unto my well beloved wife Avis Bishop whom I appoint sole Executrix of this my last will and testament my plantation I now dwell on with all my effects and moveables (sic) during her natural life and at her decease the land we now dwell on containing one hundred acres I will to be equally divided between my two youngest sons Frances and Samuel.

Also I give and bequeath to my well beloved wife Avis Bishop my negro girls Lucy and Sophia and their increase if any forever to be at her own disposal.

Also I give and bequeath to my youngest daughter Elizabeth one of my best feather beds and furniture, also my negro girl Jonney and her increase if any to her and the lawful heirs of her body forever.

Also I give and bequeath to my eldest son Roger Bishop all that trail of land called Groves Neighbour containing sixty acres or thereabouts. And all my effects besides these legacies above, I will to be equally divided between all my children at the death of my wife hereby revoking all other wills by one heretofore made in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal. This sixteenth day of June in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and sixty six. Roger Bishop (R his mark) Signed, sealed, published and declared by the above named Roger Bishop as and for his last will and testament in the presence of a few who have here until subscribed our names as witnesses thereto in the presents (sic) of the said testator and in the presents (sic) of each other. 19 August 1766 Came William Fisher Jun., Joseph Johnson and Thomas Johnson the three subscribing witnesses to the within will and being duly and solemnly sworn on the Holy Evangelist of the Almighty God depose and say the they and each of them saw the testator Roger Bishop sign the said will by making his mark and heard him acknowledge the same to be his last will and testament that at the time of his so doing he was to the best of their apprehension of sound and disposing mind and memory and that they subscribed their names as evidence to the said will as did Joseph Johnson by making his mark all in the presence of the said testator and at his request before Wmr Young, Balt County.
