Benjamin was born on the 3 November 1833 in Dorset, England, the son of John Bishop and Charlotte (Green) Bishop, he was christen on the 26 November 1833 at Wesleyan Axminster, Devon, England.[1]

At the age of 7 he emigrated from England to New Zealand with his parents and 6 siblings on board the ship Oriental. They sailed from Plymouth on 22 June 1841, arrived into Wellington in October 1841 and then on to New Plymouth, New Zealand, arriving on 7 November 1841.[3]

Marriage

Benjamin married Mary (Pattimore) Bishop on the 17 May 1855 at St Mary’s Church, New Plymouth, Taranaki, New Zealand.[4]They had about nine children.
