Biography

"John Bishop, son of Susanna (née Inskeep) and Josiah Bishop, was born in Culpeper County, Virginia, where his parents married in 1784.

The Bishop family moved from Virginia around 1810, and settled in Logan County, Ohio. John Bishop was married in Logan County three times--

Sarah "Sally" Garwood on 30 December 1819. (Sarah was the daughter of Mary (née Bishop) and Daniel Garwood). Sarah and John Bishop were the parents of: • Jonathan Garwood Bishop, and • Charles Bishop. Sally Bishop died on 7 June 1829.

Ruth Cowgill on 15 October 1829. (Ruth was the daughter of Mary "Polly" Euans and John Cowgill, who were married in Culpeper County, Virginia.) Ruth and John Bishop were the parents of: • Henry Bishop, and • Elizabeth A. Bishop Lindsey. Ruth Bishop died on 15 August 1840.

Lydia Painter on 23 September 1840. (Lydia, daughter of Sarah (née Eldridge) and Jacob Lewallen), was the widow of Rev. Joshua Painter.) Lydia and John Bishop were the parents of: • Ruth Bishop Grubbs, • Jacob Lewallen Bishop, • John Fletcher Bishop, • David Bishop, • James Wesley Bishop, and • Elizabeth Ellen "Eliza" Bishop Eppley. Lydia survived John Bishop and remarried in 1874 to Aaron Oram. She died on 28 December 1890.
