Biography

Thomas Andrew was born in 1820. He was the son of Archibald Bishop and Elizabeth Loveless.

He married Susan Ellen Dickey, 9 Jul 1851 in Saint John's Anglican church, Cornwallis Township, Kings, Nova Scotia.[1]

Andrew Bishop appears in the 1861 census of Canard, Kings Co. with a family of 3 males and 3 females, 1 female 10-15, 2 single males 15-20, 1 single female 15-20, 1 single male 20-30, 2 single females 20-30, 1 married female 50-60 [Elizabeth, his wife] and 1 married male 60-70 [himself].

In 1871, Andrew, farmer, 50, Ellen, 37, Stella, 18, Frederic, 17, Frank, 14, Selia, 12, Ernest, 5 and Ellen N., 2 months, were residing in Canard, Kings Co., Nova Scotia.[2]

In 1881, Andrew Bisshop [sic], farmer, 60, Ellen, 46, Fred, 24, Ernest, 15 and Hatty, 6, were residing in Canard, Kings Co., Nova Scotia.[3]. Tangled Roots says Hattie was the daughter of Frederick.

In 1891, Andrew Bisshop [sic], farmer, 71, Ellen, 57, Ernest, 24, Hatty, 16, Rupert, 10 and Rupert Porter, servant, 20 were residing in Canard, Kings Co., Nova Scotia.[4]. Fred Bisshop [sic], farmer, 37 and his family were residing next door.

In 1901, Andrew, farmer, 81, Ellen, 68, Fred W., 46, Ann, wife of Fred W., 45 and Ila G., [granddaughter] 12, were residing in Canard, Kings Co., Nova Scotia.[5]

In 1905, Andrew and Ellen Bishop granted a mortgage to William H. Chase for land on Canard St., Kings Co.

He died in 1906.

  5. Ernest Fenwick, b. 2 Feb 1866, m. 28 Jan 1898 in Canning, M. Genevieve Dwyer, d. 1951, bur. Pine Grove Cemetery, Middleton, Annapolis Co.
  6. Ellen N., b. 1 Jun 1871, d. 1 Aug 1871 aged 2 months of whooping cough.
  7. male, b. 11 Dec 1873, d. young.

The 1861 census listing doesn't align very well with the children listed in the 1871 census. It may have represented a blended family. -gb-
