Biography

Harold was born in 1910. He was the son of David Bittaker and Estella Orr. He passed away in 2009.

"Obituary"

Harold Leroy Bittaker, 99, of Akron, passed away Friday, June 26, 2009.

Born on January 18, 1910, in Barberton, Ohio, he was a lifelong resident of the Akron area. A loving and devoted husband and father, he promoted the education of his children and fostered their success. A faithful Christian, at the time of his death he was a member of the Woodland United Methodist Church and for years was a strong supporter of the Christian Children"s Home of Ohio. He was greatly loved and will be missed by his family, whose many happy memories of him will provide consolation.

He was the proprietor of J & H Service on Copley Road from its opening in 1931 to his retirement 43 years later. He was known in the Maple Valley neighborhood for his expert mechanical ability, his outstanding customer service, and his generosity to the community, as well as for his series of distinctive Lincoln Continentals and Town Cars.

Preceded in death by his parents, Estelle and David Bittaker; his first wife Thelma in 1967; his second wife Maude in 1996; and two sisters, Gwendolyn Martin and Betty Habyan, he is survived by his third wife, Betty; his daughter, Debora Bittaker and son-in-law, A.V. Shirk of Columbus; his son, Dennis Bittaker and daughter-in-law, Penny Bittaker of Clinton, Ohio; and their two daughters, Haley and Andrea Bittaker.

Calling hours are Sunday 3 to 5 p.m. at the Ciriello & Carr Fairlawn Chapel, 39 S. Miller Road. Rev. Gary Porter will officiate at services held at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Those who wish may contribute in lieu of flowers to the Christian Children"s Home of Ohio, Inc., Wooster, OH 44691. [1]
