Obituary from Fresno Bee 1944 - Peter Bitter, 73, a tailor, died last night in his home at 1824 California Street, after a long illness. A native of Russia, Bitter had lived in Frresno since he came to the U.S. about 25 years ago. He is survived by his widow, Maria, three daughters, Mrs. Mary Goeringer, Mrs. Mollie Lust, and Mrs. Anna Hergenrader, and two sons, Henry C. Bitters, and David M. Bitter, all of Fresno a son Peter Bitter Jr., of the United States Marie Corps, two brothers, Rev. J.C. Bitter and John Bitter of Fresno, and 11 grandchildren. Funeral services will be in the Zion Congregational Church Friday at 2 p.m. with Rev. J. N. Sauer, pastor officiating. Interment will follow in the Mountain View Cemetery. The West Side Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Peter immigrated from Liverpool, England aboard the "SS Merion" and arrived in Philadelphia, PA, USA, on 10 May 1913.
Peter Bitter died of colon cancer according to his great-granddaughter.
