Emmert Bittinger is an ordained minister in the Church of the Brethren and served many years as a pastor. After receiving his doctorate in Sociology from the University of Maryland, he taught in the Sociology Department at Bridgewater College, in Virginia, from 1962 until his retirement in 1988. Since his retirement, he has continued to write and research his family and Anabaptist origins in Switzerland, Germany and Alsace.
