Biography

ABIGAIL BIXBY, born at Westford, 13 Apr 1715 daughter of David Bixby and Abigail Butterfield;^[1] married 1st at Westford, 11 Sep 1733,^[2] ZACHARIAH SAWTELL, born at Groton, 24 Apr 1712 son of Zachariah and Mary (Blood) Sawtell;^[3] Zachariah died at Groton, 5 Mar 1752.^[4][5] Abigail married 2nd, 22 Jan 1756, JOSHUA NEVERS.^[6]

Abigail and Zachariah resided at Groton where they had a farm.

Zachariah Sawtell did not leave a will, and his widow Abigail was named administratrix on 4 May 1753. Real estate was valued at £130 and personal estate at £37.7.2. Debts exceeded the value of the personal estate and a license to sell the real estate was given 11 February 1755.^[7] In April 1755, Abigail sold 50 acres of land in Groton from the estate of Zachariah Sawtell to William Bennet.^[8]

Children

Abigail and Zachariah were parents of ten children born at Groton, six of whom died in 1752 with Zachariah dying in early 1752. Only one of the children is known to have survived to adulthood.
