When Eva's mother, Mary Jane Musselman Bixler, died of disease in 1893, Eva was only 2 years old. Her father, Charles H. Bixler was unable to care for his very young daughter. So Eva was raised by her mother's mother (Eva's grandmother), Savilla Sherman Musselman in her large house on Main St. in Manchester, Maryland. Eva did have contact with her father over the years but it was really her grandmother who raised her. Eva married in 1911 and her grandmother lived until 1927.
