Biography

Samuel Bixler Husband of Mary Harlin (De Sanno), son of John H. and Ann Catherine Bixler. Father to seven children.

In 1860, Samuel (25) and his brother Joshua (27) lived in East Ward, Carlisle, Cumberland, PA, working as salesmen for Henry Saxton, who owned a Hardware Store.

In 1870, Samuel and his wife Mary and child US Grant, lived in Long Point, Livingston Co, IL.

In 1880, Samuel and family lived in Beaver, Guthrie County, IA. Their children were U.S. Grant (12), Jennie L. (9) Cara M. (4), Minnie M. (1). At that time, Samuel was 46 and a farmer.

Samuel was a Private in the Civil War, companies G & B, 47th Illinois Infantry. It appeared his service took him to Nebraska and Iowa. He was in the service from 16 Aug 1861 to 18 Nov 1865.

On December 15, 1908, Samuel and Mary's daughter, Minnie Munshower, married Albert Applegate, in Sheridan, Nebraska, United States. Albert was 45 and Minnie was 29.

According to the United States Veterans Administration Payment Cards, 1907-1933, Samuel was listed as "disabled" in 1916. His wife Mary, applied for a pension after his death in 1919 and appeared to have received a settlement in January of 1922.
