Biography

Lome Denny Bixler was born on 5 Aug 1873; ^[1] he was the son of Emanuel Bixler and Almira Sullivan.^[2] [See Research Notes below about the spelling of his 1st name.]

In 1880,^[2] Lomie Bixler (age 6) was living in Spencer, Washington Township, Owen, Indiana, United States in the household of his father, Emanuel Bixler, with his mother & siblings (listed in table below).

On 14 May 1899 in Greene, Indiana, United States,^[3] Lome D. Bixler married Etta Maddox.

In 1900,^[4] Lome Bixler (age 26, born Aug 1873 in Indiana) was living in Fairplay Township, Greene County, Indiana, United States as the married, head of household with his wife (listed in table below). Lome and Ettie had been married for 1 year; Ettie had born 0 children.

Research Notes

• spelling of 1st/given name - in a number of federal census records, Lome Denny Bixler's 1st name was transcribed as "Lorne". However, direct examination of those census enumerations reveals that the correct spelling was "Lome", which is how he spelled his name in his 1918 WWI Draft registration.^[1]. This is the spelling that I have used in his WikiTree profile and in the relevant census records. In his 1940 federal census,^[8] his name was recorded as "Lane" and I faithfully reported that in his biography. Hiestand-529 15:06, 10 July 2023 (UTC)

• 1940 census - in the 1940 federal census,^[8] Lome & Etta were living with their daughter, "Carolin E." [sic] Carlson, and granddaughter, Cathern D. Carlson. This was mostly likely Beulah Jane (Bixler) Carlson, who married in 1933 Alfred J. Carlson. It is unclear why Beulah was recorded as "Carolin E.", as she doesn't appear to have used that name; perhaps it was simply a transcription error by the census enumerator.
