Robert McLeod Black was born 18 Jan 1878 in Tarves, Aberdeen, Scotland, UK. [1] He was the son of Isabel and Alexander Black. His older siblings were:

On 17 Jul 1920, his son Robert McLeod Black Jr was born in Scotland. [1]

On 4 Jan 1921, Robert, Elizabeth, and his three children emigrated from Glasgow on the vessel 'Columbia'. On 8 Jan 1921, Robert, Elizabeth, and three children Alexander (12 Jul 1913), John (23 Feb 1916), and Robert (17 Jun 1920) arrived in New York City, New York for immigration to the United States. [1] They settled in Kearny Town, Hudson County, New Jersey.

On 10 Mar 1922, his daughter Elizabeth Black was born in Kearny. [1]

On 30 Oct 1928, Robert Black petitioned for United States citizenship in the Common Please Court of Hudson County at Jersey City, New Jersey. He worked as a janitor. Robert, Elizabeth, and their four children were living in Arlington, New Jersey. The witnesses on his application were Thomas Rock, a carpenter residing at 11 Hillside Ave in Kearney and David Henderson, a laborer residing at 6 Alexander Ave in Kearny. Thomas and David knew Robert Black since 1 Jan 1926. [1]

1930s

In Apr 1930, Robert Black (52) lived on S Chuyla Ave in Town of Kearney with his wife Elizabeth (42), sons Alexander (16), John A (14), Robert M (9), daughter Elizabeth (8), , Joseph Pozenges (46), Joseph's wife Agnes (38), Joseph's children Charles (15), Samuel (1y), Frances (2y8m), and another boarder William Balmer (27). The value of Mr Pozenges's house was $7,000. Robert Black paid $35 in monthly rent. The age of first marriage for Robert Sr was 34, Elizabeth was 24, Joseph Pozenges was 29 and his wife Agnes was 21. Mr and Mrs Pozenges were 1912 immigrants from Lithuania and their children had been born in New Jersey. Mr Balmer was a 1930 immigrant from Scotland. Robert worked as a laborer for the public school; Alexander worked as a department store delivery clerk; Mr Pozenges worked as a foundry moulder; Charles worked as a cellulord company errand boy; Mr Balmer worked as a leather parter. On 4 Feb 1931, Robert Black was granted naturalization. [1]

1940s

In May 1940, Robert Black (62) lived on New Lawn Ave in Kearney Town with his wife Elizabeth (53), sons Alexander (26), John (25), Robert Jr (19), and daughter Elizabeth (18). They paid $45 in monthly rent. The highest level of education completed for Robert Sr and Elizabeth was two years of high school; Alexander completed one year of high school, John and Robert Jr graduated high school, and Elizabeth completed three years of high school. Robert Sr worked as a church sexton, Alexander worked as a steel electrician, John worked as a roller bearing toolmaker, Robert Jr worked clerical for an insurance company. [4]

In 1942, Robert Black (64) lived at 52 New Lawn Ave in Kearney. He worked for the First Methodist Church on Kearney Ave in Kearney. His contact person was his wife Elizabeth. [5] [6]

1950s

On 15 Apr 1950, Robert M Black (72) lived in Kearney, Hudson County with his wife Elizabeth (62), son John A (34), and daughter Elizabeth (28). They were white. Robert and mother Elizabeth were born in Scotland and naturalized US citizens. Robert worked 50 hours per week as a sexton at a Methodist church. Elizabeth was a homemaker. John was never married, born in Scotland, a naturalized US citizen, and worked 40 hours per week as an engineer for an air reduction plant. Daughter Elizabeth was born in New Jersey, never married and worked 40 hours per week as an office clerk for a foundry. [7]

In 1959, Elizabeth Black (~70) died. She and was buried at Mount Hebron Cemetery in Upper Montclair, Essex County, New Jersey. [8]

In Nov 1967, Robert Black Sr (~88) died. He was buried at Mount Hebron Cemetery. [9] [10]
