1820 U.S. Census: James Black lived in Middlebrook, Augusta, Virginia, with two males under age 10 (James W., 4, and ?), one male 16-18, one male 16-26, one male 45 and up (James, 47), two females 10-16, one female 26-45 (Nancy, 33). Two persons worked in agriculture, one person worked in manufacture. Eight persons in household. [2]
1826 Death: James Black died, approximate age 53, before June 26, 1826, in Fluvanna, Virginia. On 26 June 1826, Turner Black and Jane his wife, William Hensley and Polly his wife, Burwell Black and Christian his wife, Hundley Travillion and Sally his wife, Charles Thomas, and Henry Black, "administrators for James Black, dec'd, of Fluvanna County", sell to George W. Black, for $60, "a certain tract or parcel or full proportion or part of the land of the thirds of Judith Black, relict and widow of Jonathan Black, deceased" lying in the aforesaid county on the North fork of Cunningham Creek. Witnesses to this deed are Woodson M. Creasy, John Sclater, Howel G. Humphreys, Royal W. Humphreys, Bartlett Humphrey, James W. Humphrey, Elijah Haislip, John S. Haislip and Robert Sclater. [3]
