Biography

James Black was born in November of 1812, a leap year, less than five months after President Madison declared war on Great Britain.

James Black died July 2, 1897 at the beginning of the McKinley administration. He is buried at Mt. Moriah Methodist cemetery (near Casar, North Carolina) along with his wife, Jemima Ledford. They were married about 1840 and apparently farmed and lived in the Knob Creek Township of upper Cleveland County NC for much of their adult lives.
