Early Life

Roy was born in 1906 as the son of James Black and Mary (Fitzgerald) Black.
When Roy was four years old, his family rented a home in Milldgeville, Baldwin County, Georgia. His father worked as a superintendent at the electric company, as did two boarders lodging with the family. His mother states that she birthed four children, but only had three living. [1]
In 1920, the family owned their home and his youngest sister, Roberta Black, joined the family . Not much else had changed. His dad still worked as an electrician. [2]

Marriage and Family

On 23 May 1926, in Santa Rosa, Florida, Roy Black and Hazel Crooke marry in Santa Rosa County, Florida.[3]
They move back to Georgia, and in 1930, they and their two children (Robert and Roy), live with his parents in Dekalb County. Roy works installing machinery as a switchboarder.[4]
By 1935, the family lived in Salt Springs, Douglas, Georgia. The couple now had three children. Roy worked as an installer at the Western Electric company.[5] Roy's brother and his family also lived with them.[6]
Their marriage ended when Roy died in 1973. The couple had four children [7]

Appearance

He had black hair, blue eyes, and ruddy skin. He was about 5'7" [5]

Death and Burial

Roy passed away on 19 Feb 1973 in Lithia Springs, Douglas, Georgia. He is buried there with his wife in Mozley Memorial Gardens.[8]
