Biography

Sarah was born about 1837, the daughter of Adam Black and Sarah (Nelson)

Sarah Black married Robert Hook in 1856 in Bombala[1][2]

She passed away in 1917[3][4]

Death notice: Bendigo Advertiser (Vic. : 1855 - 1918) Fri 30 Mar 1917 - HOOK.—On the 29th March, 1917 at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. T. H. Harward, "Carlinda," 349 McDougall Road, Golden-square, Sarah, relict of the late Robert Hook, father of Mrs. Bolitho, Mrs. Wheeler, Mrs T. E. Watson ("Maroondah"), Jenkins-street, South Northcote; also of C. Hook, of the Metropolitan Board of Works.[5]

Obituary: The Bendigo Independent (Vic. : 1891 - 1918) Sat 31 Mar 1917 - The funeral of the late Mrs Sarah Hook took place yesterday afternoon, moving from the residence of her daughter (Mrs. T. H. Harward), 349 McDougall Road, Golden Square, for the Bendigo Cemetery, where her remains were laid to rest in the Methodist portion. The funeral was attended by many friends. Floral tokens were received from Bob and Lucy (grandchildren), Bobbie and May (great-grandchildren), Alice and Hugh, Mr. and Mrs. G. Heyes, Mr, and Mrs Whiteside, Mr. and Mrs. Milne. Mr and Mrs Orr and family, Mr and Mrs Phillips, Charles, Sarah and Lucy (son and daughters) Tilley and family, Maggie and family; Mr, and Mrs, Datson, and Mr and Mrs Keys. The coffin-bearers were Messrs. Milne, T. Harward, F. G. Watson and A. Bolitho. The Rev. Thomas Ray held a service at the house and also conducted the burial service at the grave, The funeral arrangements were carried out by Mr Thomas Sayer, of Bridge Street.[6]

Sarah is buried in Bendigo cemetery - Mon M5, grave 18866, interment 23470. Date of service March 30, 1917[7]
