Robert is the son of Blackadder-5, Sir Patrick Blackadder (d 1507) and grandson of Sir Andrew Blackadder, who also died at Flodden Field in 1513. Their deaths precipitated one of the most heinous acts witnessed amongst the Border Reivers. The Hume/Home family, taking advantage of the death of over 200 of the Blackadders at Flodden, besieged the Castle and forced the widow of Robert Blackadder, Isabel Hoppringle, to marry off her young daughters to the Hume heirs. These girls were both under 10 years old and the boys no older, but it was a horrific act that brought the Humes into disrepute across the Borderlands. Of course, the marriages were not consummated at the time, so the girls and their mother were held in the Castle (a grim pele tower) until the girls were old enough. To make sure there would never be another laird, the Humes also killed the brothers of Sir Andrew and Robert, both clerics. Thus the Blackadders have no laird and no official tartan anymore.
