Biography

Agnes was born on 21 June 1805 and baptized on 30 June 1805 at Longformacus. This unusual surname is variously shown in records as Blackball, Blackbell, Blackbull, Blackhall. But the baptism record of her daughter Christina Laurie in 1827 clearly shows the mother was Agnes BLACKBULL:

"Laurie - Christina, lawful daughter of James Laurie, Labourer, Chirnside, and of Agnes Blackbull, his wife, was born July the ninth, Eighteen hundred and twenty seven Years, and baptized August 12th, 1827 by the Revd. Dr. Logan."

Agnes married James Laurie (also written Lawrie, Lowrie, Lowerie, Lowery) about 1826 at Chirnside. No written record of the marriage has been found so the exact date is unknown. Agnes was listed in the 1851 census at Chirnside, 1861-1881 at Whitsome. She passed away in 1889 and was buried at Langrigg, near Whitsome. [1]
