Biography

Paul Blackburn was born about 1777 in North Carolina. He was the son of Younger Blackburn and Martha Goode.

The following is a transcription of the marriage bond for Paul Blackburn and Polly Reynolds.

We, Paul Blackburn & Talton Branham are bound unto the State of Tennessee in the penalty of Twelve Hundred and Fifty Dollars. Witness our hands, this 1 day of September 1813. The Condition of the Obligation is Such, That, whereas the above-bound Paul Blackburn, Roane County has obtained license from the Clerk of the County Court of Roane County, Tennessee to marry Polly Reynolds, Roane County: Now, if there is no lawful cause to obstruct the marriage for which said license is obtained, this obligation shall be void; otherwise to remain in full force Signed Paul Blackburn and Talton Branham[1]

Paul and Mary were living in Roane Co., Tennessee by 1829.[2]

The 1850 census has Paul Blackburn, age 73 and wife Mary, age 50. Living in the household are Elizabeth, age 33; Kiziah, age 23; Hulet, age 17; and Caroline, age 15.[3]
