Mary Blackburn was born about 1838. She was the daughter of Sarah Smith, first wife to Ira K. Blackburn.
Mary appears to have been enumerated in 1850 in the household of her grandfather, Francis Smith, and also in the household of her father, Ira K. Blackburn.
At twelve years of age, Mary Elizabeth Blackburn died during an outbreak of cholera sweeping thru Pendleton County. Her grandfather Francis Smith also died from this illness and family lore claims they wee buried on the same day in 1851. [1]
