The son of Silas Blackburn and Rebecca (Groves) Blackburn, Sheridan Blackburn was born in York Township, Ohio in 1876.[1] He lived there with his family.[2] By 1900, his family lived in Starr Township, Ohio, in Hocking County.[3] Sheridan Blackburn married Bertha Courtney (1885-1956), the daughter of James Courtney and Martha Jane Grady, marrying in Athens County, Ohio on April 28, 1906.[4] Their children included:
Lucille Marie (Blackburn) Powell (1907-1980)
Emma G. Blackburn (1908-)

They made their home in Nelsonville, Ohio where, in 1910, Sheridan worked as a coal miner.[5] When he registered for the draft at the age of 42,[6] he stated that he worked as a coal miner for April Coal Company in Nelsonville, Ohio. He was described as a man of medium height and build, with dark hair and blue eyes.
By 1920, residing in Nelsonville, Sheridan worked as bill clerk in a railroad freight office.[7] By 1930, he worked as a foreman for the freight railroad.[8] In 1940, at the age of 63, he was again a clerk at the freight depot.[9] By 1950, Sheridan and Bertha lived in Columbus, Ohio, where he worked as a carpenter, doing maintenance on state government buildings.[10]
Widowed, Sherdan Blackburn passed away in Columbus, Ohio at the age of 83.[11] He is buried at Greenlawn Cemetery in Nelsonville.[12]
