Per affidavit of Richard Eugene Blackburn (courtesy of Mary Frances Smith Fisher, by way of Rozier Dedwylder), Ferdinand was a saddle maker, and Richard had in his possession one of his account books in which he kept the records of his many customers for whom he made find Spanish saddles and leather goods. he was also a practicing physician and dentist. Richard also had a letter in his possession in which Ferdinand was addressed as Major, and he therefore believed he was an officer in the State Militia, but could not find a record of service.
Interesting to note that Nathaniel Madison Collins owned a Tannery in this area on Collin's Creek
