Thomas was born in or near Chorley, Lancashire, England, and was baptised at the Church of St Laurence, Chorley, on 20 Apr 1729. ^[1]

He married Elizabeth Ainscow at the Church of St Laurence, Chorley, on 26 Sep 1749, ^[2] and they had six children. ^[3]
