Thomas Blackman was born in 1890 at Portsmouth, Hampshire, England, .1 He was the son of William Blackman and Sarah Ann Varndall.1 Thomas Blackman appeared in the 1891 census at Portsea, Hampshire, England, . He appeared in the 1901 census at Portsmouth, Hampshire, England, . He began military service on 30 October 1907 when he joined the Royal Army Medical Corp as a Private.2 On April 22, 1912 Thomas arrived in Portland, Maine aboard the ship Ausonia en route to joining his brother Henry in Hamilton, Ontario. Accompanying him was his sister in law Louisa Mary Blackman.3 He married Edith Frances Amer, daughter of William Henry Amer and Frances Mottershead, on 29 November 1913 at Niagara, Niagara County, Ontario, Canada, .2 Thomas Blackman ended military service on 12 June 1919; when he was demobilized.2 He was Machine Fixer in 1921 at Hamilton, Wentworth County, Ontario, Canada, .4
