Biography

Phillip was born in 1872. He is the son of Frederick Blackman and Ellen Bell.

Blackman-Thorburn.

A pretty wedding was celebrated by the Rev. G. H. Frodsham at the Church of England, Hamilton, last Saturday, the 14th instant. The bride is the daughter of Mr. H. C. Thorburn of Bundaberg, formerly of Castlemaine, Victoria. The bridegroom is the son of Mr. F. A. Blackman, of Crescent-road, Hamilton. The bride entered the church with her father, and was attended by her sister Miss Jeanie Thorburn, as bridesmaid ; Mr. Harry Blackman, brother of the bridegroom, acted as best man. The bride wore a pretty Chinese silk gown made with a tucked yoke of chiffon, ornamented with crystal guipure, and a becoming white chip hat and white plumbs. The bridesmaid's dress was of cream crepon, stylishly trimmed with ruched ribbon and lace, her hat of black and white straw was ornamented with white plumes and silk. After the ceremony the guests, who were only near relatives of both families, were entertained at Rossholm by Mrs. Mactaggart, sister of the bride, and Mr. Mactaggart. The billiard-room, prettily decorated with palms and flags for the occasion, made a nice reception-room. Upon leaving for Toowoomba, en route for Sydney, the bride travelled in a neat gray bengaline costume, contrasted with facings of maroon velvet and Maltese lace, and a large black velvet hat and plumes with touches of maroon velvet to harmonise. Among the guests were the Mayor, Mr. Nicol Robinson, and the Mayoress (sister of the bride) ; Mrs. Powers (sister of the bride) : and Mr. C. Powers ; Mr. and Mrs. F. A. Blackman, of Booreela, Hamilton ; Mr. H. N. Thorburn (brother of the bride), and Mrs. Thorburn ; Mrs. Dan. Mactaggart (Sister of the bride), and Mr. Mactaggart ; Mrs. Charles Clarke (sister of the bridegroom), and Mr. Clarke ; and the Misses Blackman, Mr. and Mrs. John Mactaggart, Mrs, and Miss Graham, and Miss Powell.[1]
